Belly Dance Every Day - Let’s Travel

Posts have been a little sporadic the past week and probably will be for the next week or two until my office is completely moved to it’s new location, I apologize and promise that everything will be back on track soon. :)

Let’s do something a little different today and learn how to get from one place to another and still look graceful.

We’ll start with a grapevine step. Take your right foot and cross it over your left foot and step. Step to the side with your left foot. Step with your right again this time crossing behind your left foot and then take a side step with your left foot again. Repeat crossing front first and then crossing back. Do the same move going to the left - I find it easier when I start with my left foot to cross behind first, but it is mainly because the troupe that I belong to has chosen to cross front first when we step right and cross back first when we step left so that our grapevines will have consistency when we dance together.

A grapevine is done quickly most of the time and it is easier and more graceful to take smaller steps (though sometimes you may have to take larger steps to get where you are going - this is where you will have to think creatively and adjust your movement to fit your music and space). You can also add a slight hip twist to the move to give it a different look. A grapevine can be done either flat-footed or demi-pointe.
